Hello $(To-First-Name),

Things are really looking good in South Africa ( OK, except the petrol price..... ) - the Rand is stable ; Mbeki promises us all 152000 new cops by 2006 ; Indaba 2004 was a huge success and we've got the 2010 Football World Cup !!! All in all an excellent time to be in the Travel and Tourism industry in South Africa.... especially if you have a website and it's being hosted and promoted by iTT CONNECT.

John Rothschild, former President and Executive Director of Southern Africa Tourism Services Association (Satsa) is currently in South Africa on holiday. Rothschild, who left SA six years ago, and has been living in Brisbane, Australia, said that he is amazed to see the changes that have taken place in SA since he left.  “It is superb to be here and see the refreshing change that has taken place. I am delighted that the country has been awarded the 2010 World Cup and think that the announcement will be enthusiastically received by South Africans overseas as well,” said Rothschild. ( Ed. i wonder how many South Africans abroad are seriously considering coming back .... ? )

Enjoy this weeks snippets, specials and comments; and if you want to give me any feedback, just email me at details at the end of this newsletter. Remember that we are trying to thwart spammers ( sending unsolicited email ) so we have put spaces all email addresses you see in this newsletter - remember to take the space out when sending email !

# The Brand family announced the sale of The Grace in Rosebank to African Sun Hotels (ASH), a division of the Zimsun Leisure Group, on May 20 and said that the five-star property officially became part of ASH on April 1.
The hotel is ASH’s first South African property. The hotel will continue to operate under the existing name, The Grace in Rosebank, and Chippy and Cynthia Brand will stay on with the hotel as consultants..  [snippet supplied by www.travelnewsnow.co.za]

# GUESTEX, which caters for the guesthouse and B&B sector, will be held this year in conjunction with Hostex Cape 2004 at the Cape Town International Convention Center, from June 2 to 4. [snippet supplied by www.travelnewsnow.co.za]

# 1Time, the low-fare airline in SA, has confirmed that it will not be adding a fuel surcharge and that its fares will remain at R581 one-way, or below, as advertised. Meanwhile, speculation is that competing low-fare carrier, Kulula will also not charge a fuel surcharge, although the airline is not commenting on the matter at this point. According to John Morrisson, CE of the Airlines Association of Southern Africa, the levy of R28 domestically and $10 (R70) internationally, is an optional charge and South African airlines are not obligated to it.

UPDATE

Everyone's favourite holiday past-time ( OK, almost everyone's ) is snow skiing and what better country to do it in but the "home" of Alpine skiing - Austria. skiAustria Tours is the first Tour Operator to release the 2004 / 05 ski season pricing to the widest selection of snow skiing resorts around Austria. Their packages include flights from South Africa, airport transfers to the resorts, accommodation in either Pensions or Hotels, ski hire, ski lift passes, limited entertainment and a whole lot more. Not only do they offer the widest selection of ski resorts in Austria ( being friendlier than France, more organized than Italy and not as regimented as Switzerland ), but their package pricing is very competitive. Have a look at their online brochure on www.skiAustria.co.za or send them a request by email

BOOK FLIGHTS ONLINE

Online flight bookings in South Africa are picking up at an incredible rate and what better way to remind you that our flight quote and booking system gives you the best AVAILABLE seat prices - what's the point of doing an online quote if the price given to you is not available to be booked ??!! You may think this is a flippant remark but you will be amazed how many systems do not give you real time availability out there.

Our flight quote and booking service is for travel IN and OUT of South Africa and the BEST SEAT PRICE option searches all airlines between departure and destination cities on the given dates AND gives you the cheapest AVAILABLE seat in under 15 SECONDS. Remarkable.... so next time you want to get a quote for the lest expensive seat on a flight - go to www.iTravelto.com/flights

That's it for this fortnight, let me know if you have any queries or comments.

Kind Regards,
Thomas Altmann
