Things to do at Chiefs Camp
Chief's Camp is one of the Okavango Delta's newest lodges, offering the traveler a world class African safari destination in one of the world's last great wilderness areas. Located on the northwest tip of Chief's Island, this private concession forms part of the Mombo Tourism Zone in the Moremi Game Reserve.
Mombo is synonymous with excellent game viewing which is, in part, due to thick vegetation and mineral rich soils, allowing the area to sustain abnormally high numbers of safari game and predators. Game viewing in the Mombo area is nothing short of spectacular abundance at any given time.
Apart from its predators, the area is also renowned for its large concentrations of plains game, Elephant and Buffalo. Since Chief's Camp opened, no less than 52 different Lion have been identified within a 9 kilometer (5.5 miles) radius of camp. Further, game-sighting statistics over the past 12 months reveal that Leopard have been spotted every 2 to 3 game drives. Game drives are conducted in open vehicles, which offer unencumbered views.
Land cruisers have been custom built and offer individual seating. Game drives are conducted early morning and late afternoon or when requested. The accompanying professional guides are among the best in Botswana. Depending upon water levels Chief's Camp also offers mokoro (dugout canoe) activities. A range of spa treatments are offered in a poolside treatment sala (peak season only).
