A safari trip can end up being quite busy with the early morning game drives, excursions and early starts to catch flights. At Chobe Game Lodge you can choose to go out game viewing or spend the day at the lodge. Wake up late in time for breakfast buffet. There is a range of cereals and yoghurts. Muffins, scones and croissants with cheese and jams form part of the Continental options and all the components of a Full English breakfast are available.
Afterwards spend some time relaxing on the loungers. These are set around the pool. It has a waterfall and is shaded by Strelitzias, Bananas and Palms which give it a real tropical feel. Have a swim in the pool to cool off. Perhaps head down to the Sky View Deck. This is a long wooden walk way that stretches along the edge of the river.
It has comfortable chairs at strategic points which offer great views over the Caprivi floodplain. Grab a book and settle down in one of the chairs, glancing up occasionally to see Elephant, Buffalo or Zebra feeding out on the plain.
The birdlife in the riverine canopy is prolific and avid birders will see many different species. In the summer months migrant species such as Carmine Bee Eaters and Skimmers are commonly seen. Arrange to have a beauty treatment with the Lodge therapist or have a rejuvenating massage in the wellness room.
After being pampered head down for lunch which is served buffet style. There will be a huge selection of salads. Roasts and all the trimmings, pasta dishes and a large dessert buffet. Then have a siesta in the air-conditioned comfort of your suite before the afternoon activity. Either choose a game drive or set out on a tranquil sunset cruise.
After your evening game activity which will include refreshing sundowners you'll return to the lodge and enjoy a sumptuous dinner. Perhaps it will be a boma dinner. The Boma is a traditional African meeting place, often constructed out of reeds. Chobe Game Lodges opens out onto the river and you could see wildlife wander past while enjoying dinner.
At Boma evenings they often serve a variety of traditional dishes as well as have a barbeque. There is something wonderful about dining out under the stars by candlelight. The lodge has its own marimba band that provides fantastic entertainment. Some guests even get up and groove along with the band.
At the end of the evening, head back to a luxurious air-conditioned suite. Luxuriate in a warm bath or shower before falling into the comfortable bed and drifting off to sleep.
