Safari Experiences at Xakanaxa Camp

Discover the contrast between the dry savannah regions and the lush islands and hidden byways of the Okavango when staying at the scenic Xakanaxa Camp.

Xakanaxa Camp faces out over the Xakanaxa Lagoon on the Khwai River and guests can enjoy boat safaris into the sinuous channels of the Delta - one of Africa's greatest natural wonders. These trips are great for seeing a variety of waterfowl and animals on the various islands.

To discover the abundant wildlife and exceptional bird life of the area take part in an open 4x4 Land Rover safari, mokoro game viewing (traditional dugout canoe) and trips in speedboats. This region of the Moremi Game Reserve has one of the densest game populations with animals including Tsessebe, Lechwe, Wildebeest, Impala, Waterbuck, Elephant, Sable and Giraffe.

The predators are prevalent and Lions are often heard calling in the early mornings. Leopards, Wild Dog and Hyena are often seen. Birding in the area is excellent, especially in the spring and summer months, when the migrants are breeding.

The game drives through this sector of the Moremi Game Reserve takes guests through a large variety of different vegetation types, down winding tracks, through Mopane forests and across lush grasslands. The waterways are either forded by vehicles or crossed on rustic log bridges.

The summer months are very good for fishing - mainly Bream (Tilapia), but there are also Tiger Fish. All safari activities are conducted by fully qualified licensed safari guides eager to impart their in-depth knowledge and reveal the secrets of this great wilderness.
