Xakanaxa (pronounced Ka-Kan-A-Ka) is located 50kms (31 miles) to the west of the Khwai Gate in the northern sector of the Moremi Game Reserve, which is rated as one of the finest game viewing safari areas in Africa. This is one of the few Moremi Game Reserve safari lodges which can offer comprehensive year-round boating and mokoro trips as well as game drives.
To the north and west of the camp are the permanent lagoons and waterways of the Okavango and to the south and the east are dry woodland areas. This Moremi Game Reserve safari lodge is located on the permanent flowing Khwai River and overlooks the beautiful Xakanaxa Lagoon.
Xakanaxa Camp boasts beautiful open-sided thatched reception areas, shaded by impressive riverine trees, situated right on the edge of the lagoon. The game viewing decks offer spectacular views out over the Xakanaxa Lagoon. Evenings can be enjoyed around the camp fire on a deck elevated over the river. After a hot safari day guests can relax and cool down in a plunge pool.
The open fronted dining room is also raised on a wooden platform, situated at the edge of the Xakanaxa Lagoon. Its thatch roof and reed walls echo the atmosphere of rustic comfort. This is further reinforced by the myriad lamps and candles, which illuminate the camp at night.
To the south and east, the reserve offers sanctuary to the most varied herds in southern Africa. To the north and west of the lodge are the permanent lagoons and waterways of the Okavango Delta which can be explored by powerboat or traditional dugout canoe (mokoro).
