Not only can a wide variety of animals and birds be seen on a Kalahari safari in Botswana at Grasslands Bushman Lodge, exciting game viewing is a daily event around the waterhole at dusk, right in front of the lodge. Guests can relax in chairs around the campfire or by the pool with a sundowner and see many animals come to the waterhole to drink under floodlight.
The owner of Grasslands Bushman Lodge is a qualified and highly experienced guide who has grown up amongst the San, learning their language and forging a wonderful bond with the local people of this ancient race. Apart from activities on the reserve, tailor-made safaris can also be arranged to Moremi Game Reserve and the Okavango Delta.

Meet the San (Bushmen)
Unforgettable memories are made when guests spend time in the company of these indigenous people. The San show guests their fascinating methods of hunting for food such as meat, vegetables and nuts in this challenging landscape. Guests can learn about how they make medicines, build their homes and play games together. Traditional dances and ceremonies are also enjoyed by all.
Horseback safaris
The riding safaris are suitable for everyone and all levels of experience – even novices. These safe and leisurely rides can be of any length from one hour to three days. The horses are well trained and able to get quite close to the game which is less wary of them. Local Bushmen often accompany longer rides, pointing out features of interest in the environment. Advance booking is essential for these longer trails.
Game Drives
Fabulous game viewing is offered at this Central Kalahari Lodge in Botswana, due to the reserve’s unique location, size and sound management principles. Large herds of strictly Kalahari game can be seen on game drives such as Eland, Gemsbok and Blue Wildebeest - also Duiker and Steenbok. Nocturnal animals on night drives that can be seen include Porcupine, Aardvark, Brown Hyena and many more
Grassland’s Predator Protection Project
Guests can learn about the important rescue work carried out with Lion, Leopard, Cheetah and Wild Dog in the Kalahari farmlands, and see how rogue or orphaned animals are being moved to other more suitable locations and saved from certain death. This project is about the protection and conservation of these animals, especially in the case of Cheetah and Wild Dog, which are faced with extinction.
