Northern Namibia stretched from the sparsely populated Kunene Region in the west across the region of Owambo to the far north east with densely populated communities. This Northern Region can be divided into the central area of Ovamboland and Etosha National Park, the north western area of Damaraland and Kaokoland and the north eastern area of the Caprivi, Okavango and Bushmanland. The Caprivi Strip, which changed its name to Namibia’s Zambezi Region in 2013, is 450 km long, the countries most tropical region and home to the Ovambo, Namibia’s largest ethnic group. Namibia has six permanent rivers of which the Chobe, Kwando, Okavango and Zambezi flows along and through the Zambezi Region (Caprivi Strip). It is rich in wildlife and has mineral resources. Parks found in this Northern Region of Namibia are the Bwabwata National Park, Nkasa Rupara National Park, Mamili National Park, Mahango National Park and the Mudumu national Park. The Zambezi region is a fascinating area with an interesting combination of swamps, woodlands, forests and rivers. Because of the abundance of water, the regions is home to four of the Big Five, a variety of flora and 600 species of birds. There are excellent game lodges overlooking the rivers and offers easy access to Zimbabwe and Botswana.
