Planet Baobab combines style with comfort, whilst remaining true to its traditional African inspiration. Guests have the option of a Bushman grass hut, palatial Kalanga mud hut (with an en-suite bathroom) traditionally painted with amazing designs or a shady campsite where you can pitch your own tent.
These huts, with en-suite facilities, are uniquely designed and offer tremendous comfort and style. Perfectly designed for the African climate, they are warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Inspired by traditional homes of Botswana, each one is different from the other.
Lelwapa / verandah areas have low cow dung walls and its exterior artwork has been applied with natural pigments harvested from termite mounds. All bedding is provided and each hut features a unique shelving space for guests.
Built by Bushmen from Botswana's central Kalahari, these huts have been built in an authentic and traditional fashion using only natural materials. True to inspiration, they are without electricity or en-suite facilities.
Like the Bakalanga mud huts, they are brilliantly designed for the varying Bush climate, providing cool relief in the heat and warmth in the winter. Each hut features 2 traditional but comfortable beds made from mopane with cowhides covering on the floor, a bedside table and a paraffin lantern. Linen is provided.
Planet Baobab also offers large nicely positioned, secluded campsites for campers with braai (barbeque) and ablution facilities.
Planet Baobab facilities include al fresco dining with a central fireplace situated under the spreading branches of a morula tree. A lelwapa (enclosed fireplace) area where you can relax. Facilities for recharging video equipment and other batteries are available upon request. By the end of 2003, a pool for those hot Kalahari days.
Planet Baobab's Africantastic 'shebeen' (bar) features huge pendulous, beer bottle chandeliers suspended from the massive thatch roof, traditional wooden kgotla chairs and funky black-and-white cowskin recliners, which are supremely comfortable. Planet Baobab serves the most delicious chocolate cake in the Kalahari, and the best cappuccino too.
