There can be a no more fulfilling way of experiencing a safari in Africa than under the guidance of people who have grown up on the land and whose ancestors have survived the harsh environment for centuries. This Ancient Rivers and Pans Package provides all this and more.
Both Nxai Pan and Central Kalahari that are visited on this classic Botswana holiday represent the true Kalahari which is seldom experienced anywhere else. Your experienced guides provide knowledge and passion to enhance an already unforgettable African safari.
Your activities on this Ancient Rivers and Pans safari include game drives, spectacular stargazing and nature walks with Bushmen trackers, ensuring that the experience is unique and true.
Arriving in Maun on a flight from Johannesburg you will be transferred to your camp in Nxai Pan National Park by light aircraft. You will arrive in time for lunch and a short rest before the afternoon game drive.
Nxai Pan is a cousin of the legendary Makgadikgadi Pans set in the Kalahari and sightings here differ between the dry season and the wet season, with the wet season attracting great herds, whilst during the dry season, the animals target the few permanent waterholes.
An early morning wake-up signals a day of excitement and spectacular game sightings as you explore the Nxai Pan National Park. During the wet season the drives will concentrate on the grass plains where herds of animals gather with their young, which in turn attracts predators.
The dry season means the drives seek out the permanent waterholes where the resident animals congregate under the watchful eyes of the ever-present predators. Whatever the season drives to the famous Baines' Baobabs are an option, and with nightfall some of the best stargazing in Africa can be had
An early wake-up call and light breakfast precedes the day's activities of exploring the Central Kalahari Game Reserve with the help of a Bushman tracker who will share his intimate knowledge on game drives and nature walks. The Bushmen are the original inhabitants of the Kalahari and as such know the area better than anybody.
Picnics on a pan surrounded by the wide vistas are a highlight of a Kalahari safari, and at night there is no more dramatic place to view the stars of the southern skies than in the desert. Falling asleep to the sounds in the Kalahari is an experienced to be savoured.
