This Okavango Panhandle safari will provide you with an African safari experience with a difference. Relaxing on a houseboat as you meander along the winding channels of the Panhandle is the ultimate in adventure relaxation.
The houseboat is a lodge on water - with en-suite rooms and delicious meals. Small boats are part of the accessories allowing for freedom of movement. Activities include birdwatching, boating, walks and optional visits to the legendary Tsodilo Hills.
This relatively unknown part of Botswana provides an African safari where the emphasis is more on nature and relaxation under the wide skies of Africa. The Panhandle is renowned for its birding and fishing but there are many more activities to enjoy.
Upon arrival at Maun airport you will be met and transferred in an air-conditioned mini-bus along a good tar road to the Panhandle. The transfer is about 4 hours but allows you an insight into rural life in Botswana as you pass villages and settlements en route.
Arriving late afternoon you will board the houseboat which will be your home for the next 3 nights. You can truly relax as you soak up the atmosphere while cruising along the Okavango River.
These are lazy days where you can watch Africa pass by from the deck of the houseboat - but there are also exciting activities to enjoy during your Panhandle Meander. The houseboat has rooms with large sliding door windows and en-suite facilities to ensure maximum privacy. There are smaller boats included with the houseboat for guests wanting to explore more of the area.
Activities available during your stay include motorboat rides in the channels, birdwatching and a tour to the legendary Tsodilo Hills - the spiritual home of the San people. This safari with a difference is all about relaxation but the activities allow for a deeper appreciation of this relatively unknown area of Botswana, where guides will share their knowledge and love of the area with you. Nights on the water are to be savoured, with the sounds of insects and wildlife lulling you off to sleep.
This is the last day of your Panhandle Meander Safari Package. Enjoy the cool morning hours and your final breakfast after a relaxing, yet fascinating, Botswana safari where the clichés of an African safari were cast aside.
Today you will leave early for the road transfer back to Maun Airport. From Maun you take your onward connection to Johannesburg O.R. Tambo Airport.
