For a complete Botswana safari, Xudum Delta Lodge is open all year for African wildlife viewing including the Big Five and spectacular bird watching. Water adventures in dug-out canoes and boats provide an altogether different perspective on life in the Okavango Delta.
Whilst out traversing the plains guests might encounter large herds of Elephant and Buffalo and see the elegant Sable or Roan Antelope. Never far away are the predators, Lion in particular. On a night drive, guests may just be fortunate to see Leopard as well as other fascinating nocturnal creatures on a Botswana safari. Present, but not often seen is the endangered African Wild Dog.
Close to the water, bird watchers can see warblers, weavers and various types of kingfishers. Pel’s Fishing Owl hunts the plentiful fish in the Delta channels and the cry of the fish eagle is often heard.
Fascinating Fan Palms are a favourite nesting site for many bird species. White-Backed Vultures build their nests in the crown and Dickinson’s Kestrel prefers the openings in the tree trunk itself. These palms are a great natural resource for animals; Elephant absolutely adore the fruit and leaves and via their digestive system propagate the seeds.
